Effects of gully control measures on sediment yield and connectivity in wooded rangelands

چکیده

Gully rehabilitation is often applied as part of catchment management strategies aimed at reducing downstream sediment yields. However, the influences gully control measures on runoff and transport processes in agroforestry systems have been seldom studied. In this paper, a thorough analysis these was carried out valley-bottom located dehesa from SW Spain. The monitored before after implementation different that included: gabion check-dams, brushwood check-dams livestock exclusion through fencing. aims work are: (1) to analyze effect hydrological dynamics load, (2) evaluate their connectivity channel scales. Changes topography were estimated using sequential Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) with resolution 0.02 m generated by Structure – Motion photogrammetry aerial images acquired an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. Discharge suspended outlet. Results indicate flood discharge not influenced measures, but concentration reduced 65%. integration difference index topographic change maps highlighted impact changes connectivity. A strong relationship between geomorphic spatial pattern pathways observed gully. (IC) increased eroded areas, while deposition sites showed decrease IC. Connectivity also decreased bank headcuts within area isolated livestock. successful stabilizing expansion network had beneficial effects short-term further monitoring would be necessary understand long-term effects.

Comparative Assessment of Gully Erosion and Sediment Yield in Different Rangelands and Agricultural Areas in Ghasr-e-Shirin, Kermanshah, Iran

Negative impacts of gully erosion in marly areas are severe due to improper landuse practices such as irrigation, tillage, overgrazing and degradation of vegetation cover. The objective of this research was to evaluate gully thresholds related to plant vegetation cover and landuse change in the Agriculture (AG), Fair Rangeland (FR) and Weak Rangeland (WR) areas of Ghaasr-e-Shirin, Kermanshah, I...

Conversion trends of rangelands to dry farming and its effects on erosion and sediment yield in Kardeh drainage basin

Converting rangelands to arable land such as dry farming is widely practiced in many places in Iran. This activity could possibly contribute to the increase in downstream sedimentation. The effects of this activity on downstream watersheds are not well documented for many strategic areas in the country. One such area which is proposed for this study is the Kardeh drainage basin, located in the ...

Wooded Draws in Rangelands of the Northern Great Plains

Wooded draws and natural prairie woodlands occupy about 1.1 percent of the northern Great Plains. While the extent of wooded draws is extremely limited, their importance and value is much greater. These unique communities are important for wildlife and livestock habitats, soil stabilization, watershed maintenance, firewood, esthetics, and species diversity (Fig. 1). An estimate of their value h...
